The G-5A is a genuine American Standard Stratocaster with an alder body, a 22-fret maple neck and a Candy Apple Red finish. Roland COSM electronics are built into the guitar, so one instrument can produce modeled sounds of other electric and acoustic guitars alongside its normal Strat pickups.
A five-way pickup selector and a Mode knob select between normal operation and modeled Stratocaster, Telecaster, humbucker and acoustic tones. The modeled set includes two Bright Humbucker options and Wide Range single-coil variations, and in all there are 25 pickup and instrument tones. A Tuning knob adds Drop D, Open G, D Modal and Baritone tunings, plus 12-string sounds that can be layered onto any COSM tone. In Normal mode the COSM section is bypassed and the guitar plays as a conventional Strat.
Output is through a single 1/4" guitar jack. Power comes from four AA batteries, either alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH. A hard shell case, strap, cable and tremolo arm are included.
