The instrument combines a 61-note synth-action keyboard with ZEN-Core and SuperNATURAL sound engines, a virtual tonewheel organ, and support for expansion models loaded from Roland Cloud. Sounds are organised into scenes that store settings for 16 zones with effects and patterns. A 16-track pattern sequencer offers realtime, step and TR-REC recording, and an SMF player handles standard MIDI files.
Sampling is built in, with a keyboard multisampler and a 16-pad sampler that imports WAV and AIFF files. A microphone input feeds an onboard vocoder with selectable band counts. Control comes from a 5.5-inch touchscreen, eight knobs, eight sliders, two wheels, a pitch/mod lever and a 4 x 4 pad grid.
The unit connects to a computer over USB as an audio and MIDI interface, with integration for Logic Pro, MainStage and Ableton Live. It also has balanced main outputs, sub outputs, MIDI in and out, pedal jacks and a USB memory port. It shares its sound engines, panel controls and I/O with the 76-key FANTOM-07 and the 88-key FANTOM-08.
