The 791 combines four roles in one fully balanced, dual-mono unit: an analog line preamplifier, a DAC based on the MDE2 digital module, a configurable MM/MC phono stage and a MiND 2 network player. The M-VOL3 analog volume control is intended to keep resolution constant at low levels, and the circuits are physically and electrically isolated from one another.
Digital playback covers PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256 (11.2896 MHz) over USB Audio and MiND 2. Streaming support includes Roon Ready, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Bluetooth. A 4.3-inch colour display shows source, format and album artwork, and the supplied BRM-1 remote handles everyday control.
The unit has three analog and seven digital inputs, including USB Audio, HDMI ARC, AES/EBU, optical and coaxial. Outputs are balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA. MOONLink allows it to be operated together with other MOON components.
