The RS 5 is a three-axis handheld stabilizer that carries mirrorless camera and lens combinations up to 3 kg (6.6 lb). It uses a fifth-generation stabilization algorithm and a peak motor torque 50% higher than the previous model. Balancing is done with fine-tuning knobs on each axis arm that use a leadscrew mechanism and Teflon interlayers. Automated axis locks engage on power-off or sleep and release on power-on. Switching to vertical shooting takes a few seconds and needs no extra accessories.
Subject tracking runs through the separately sold RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, which lets the user pick a person, vehicle or pet on the gimbal touchscreen. A new electronic briefcase handle, also optional, has a joystick and buttons for gimbal and camera control. A Z-axis indicator helps the operator even out their footsteps. A Bluetooth shutter covers Sony, Canon, Nikon and selected Panasonic and Fujifilm cameras.
The gimbal charges fully in about one hour with a 65 W PD charger and the BG33 battery grip, and gives about 14 hours of standby. The optional BG70 grip extends standby to 30 hours. The RSA port connects the briefcase handle, tethered control handle and remote-control ring handles. It also supports the open RS SDK, Focus Pro Motors and DJI SDR Transmission.
