WA-CX12

The WA-CX12 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser that recreates the sound of the vintage C12. It uses a CK12-style capsule built from brass rather than the nylon capsules found in some later versions, which gives an open, clear top end. A 12AY7 vacuum tube adds warmth and clarity without harsh highs.

The frequency response is largely flat, with a slight dip at 2 kHz and a gradual lift between 5 and 10 kHz. This tuning aims for clear mids and a smooth top end, which suits solo vocals, piano, horns and natural room ambience. A custom USA-made AMI transformer drives the capsule signal. Nine polar patterns are available for different recording situations.

The microphone is listed with a product manual and online product registration. Its suggested pairing is the WA73-EQ single-channel British mic preamp with EQ, and the WA-CX24 is named as a similar product.
