The 814ce is a right-handed Grand Auditorium steel-string with a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. The body uses V-Class bracing and is described as giving warm lows, clear trebles and a slightly scooped midrange. It is aimed at flatpicking, strumming and fingerpicking, and it is amplified through the Expression System 2 pickup.

The neck is tropical mahogany with a West African Crelicam ebony fretboard and Element inlays. The body has a Venetian cutaway and a radius armrest, which cannot be left off. The top and the back and sides carry a gloss 4.5 finish, while the neck is satin. Strings are D'Addario XS coated phosphor bronze lights (.012 - .053), and the tuners are smoked nickel.

The guitar connects to an amplifier or PA through the built-in ES2 electronics, which use a behind-the-saddle pickup design. A deluxe hardshell case is included. Registration brings a limited lifetime warranty in the U.S. and Canada, or an extended warranty elsewhere. The guitar is made in El Cajon, California.
