The MC-101 combines a ZEN-Core sound generator with a four-track sequencer. Each track can hold a tone, a drum kit or an audio loop, and 16 clips per track can be triggered from 16 RGB pads. The library includes more than 3,000 preset tones and over 80 drum kits, with emulations of classic Roland instruments such as the TR-808, TR-909, JUNO-106 and SH-101.
User samples and loops can be imported from an SD card, and looper tracks offer time stretch and pitch shift so audio follows the project tempo. Every track has its own multi-effects, EQ, chorus/delay and reverb, and the master section adds 90 effect types, a compressor and EQ. The step sequencer runs up to 128 steps on tone and drum kit tracks.
The unit connects to a computer through a single USB cable that carries audio and MIDI, and it can record the full mix or the four parts separately into a DAW. Other connections are stereo line outputs, a headphone jack and MIDI in/out. It runs on four AA batteries or USB bus power and ships with an SD card installed.
