The COBALT5S is a compact, five-voice polyphonic synthesiser built on an extended virtual-analogue engine. Each voice has up to 8 oscillators arranged in two independent groups, with 40 algorithms that cover sync, ring modulation, FM, PWM, wave folding, bit crushing and filtered noise. The signal runs through a morphable 4-pole ladder filter with resonance and four switchable configurations.
Modulation comes from three envelope generators (amp, mod and filter), one polyphonic and one global LFO with seven shapes and tempo sync, and an 8-slot matrix with 11 sources and 41 destinations. Performance tools include a 512-note realtime sequencer with four animation lanes, a 64-step polyphonic step sequencer, a 32-step arpeggiator, MPE support and two stereo effect engines for chorus and delay. Memory holds 300 patches, 200 of them factory programs, plus 100 sequencer presets.
It connects through stereo 1/4-inch line outputs, a headphone output, a sustain pedal input, MIDI DIN in and out, analogue clock sync in and out, and class-compliant USB MIDI. It runs from a 9 V DC adapter or USB bus power. The free MODALapp editor is available for macOS, Windows, iOS, iPadOS and Android, and as VST3 and AU plug-ins.
