The Space 251 is a tube condenser microphone that takes its sonic cues from the vintage 251 design and presents them in a futuristic electroplated all-metal body. It uses a pressure-gradient transducer with a shock-mounted capsule and offers three selectable polar patterns: cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8. The tonal character is described as smooth in the highs, full in the mids and warm in the low end, which suits vocals as well as acoustic guitars, pianos and strings.
Inside, it uses a 12AY7 tube, WIMA capacitors, Fairchild resistors and Cinemag transformers. The glossy plated finish also helps reduce self-noise, and the equivalent noise is rated at 12 dBA.
The microphone connects to its power supply through a 7-pin Gotham Audio cable, which carries both audio and tube supply voltage. The power supply has a polarity switch and an XLR 3-pin female output. The package includes a shock mount, a magnetic pop filter and a metal storage case.
