The English Muff'n is a pedal built around a dual vacuum tube preamp stage that is dedicated to tube overdrive. Rather than modelling British guitar amps digitally, it relies on actual tubes to get the saturation and richness associated with Brit-valve sounds. It can also be used to colour the tone of an amp it is plugged into.
It ships with two Electro-Harmonix 12AY7 tubes. Swapping in 12AX7 tubes gives more gain and distortion, while 12AU7 tubes give less. Mixing different tube types is suggested as a way to find other drive characters.
The pedal uses true bypass switching with a mechanical relay, so the signal path is untouched when it is turned off. A 12AC-1000 power supply is included. The maker lists the model as discontinued in 2021.
